The reactor in figures
Pressure inside the reactor vessel: approximately 15 MPa, roughly equivalent to the pressure 1.5 km below sea level.
Water temperature: 320 °C in the liquid state.
The reactor operates continuously for 16 months between scheduled refueling outages.
Power output is controlled using control rods and boric acid, which flows through the reactor together with the coolant. Both the control rods and the boron absorb neutrons.
Nuclear safety is ensured by multiple barriers:
fuel assembly – metal cladding – pressure vessel – containment
