Big Picture
The reactor releases heat from the fission reaction. Water in the primary circuit carries this heat further.
Steam is generated in the secondary circuit, which drives the turbine and generator.
After passing through the turbine, the steam cools down and turns back into water.
The individual parts are separate, but together they form a single closed system.
