Temelin NPP construction
The construction was started in 1987.
Unit 1 was commissioned in 2000 and Unit 2 in 2002. Up to 10,000 people worked on the site at any one time.
It was one of the largest construction sites in Czechoslovakia.
More than 1 million m³ of concrete and thousands of tonnes of steel were used in the construction. Each generating unit has a capacity of over 1000 MW.
Together, the two units cover just over 20% of electricity consumption in the Czech Republic.
At the Temelin NPP, heat is generated by a VVER-1000 reactor with modernized Western safety control systems.
