Steam Turbines
The steam turbines at Temelín (there are two of them) were manufactured by the Pilsen-based company Doosan Škoda Power. Each turbine has an output of 1,125 MW and ranks among the most powerful energy-generation machines ever built in the Czech Republic.
When operating at full capacity, such an enormous volume of steam flows through a turbine that it could fill one hot-air balloon every minute.
Each turbine weighs 1,600 tonnes, and the tip speed of its longest rotor blade reaches 2,440 km/h. Even a Gripen fighter jet cannot achieve such a speed!
Doosan Škoda Power is responsible not only for manufacturing the turbines, but also for their long-term maintenance and the ongoing modernization of technological equipment at Temelín.
